I am a Chartered Building Surveyor with over 30 years experience in the local Extension & Home Improvement market. My father trained as as an Architect & from an early age I drew my own house designs, and built them in Lego! After graduating from Reading University with an honours degree I worked in Surveying practices for several years before venturing out on my own. I support Reading FC, and enjoy Photography, Guitars & Travel!
My favourite place of late is probably Cornwall. Though Crete is up there too. A good curry, and a Jalapeno & Anchovy Pizza hits the spot!
I built this web site from scratch

Favourite Song: “Who let the dogs out” and of course “Lola” by the Kinks. What else?
Gareth loves working with wood & food! He joined Crownwood in 2004 having left an Art course at College. He enjoyed creativity, but the structure of academia less so! Trained in Carpentry he has established himself as our go to guy for Kitchen installation.
He enjoys working with with wood in his spare time creating amazing furniture & other pieces. He is one half of the “Paice Brewing Co” producing quality beers. He is also a passionate & accomplished cook. He enjoys fishing & music too.

Carpenters & Electricians (and much more)
Chris (Looie) -
Chris joined Crownwood in 2015 as an Electrician, having retrained. Left school and joined the army, and finished up in the Royal Military Police. Saw action in Iraq & Afghanistan. After a spell of security work in the Middle East he gravitated towards the construction industry. Another “Gooner” (Arsenal fan to the uninitiated). Loves active sports including squash, running & generally keeping fit. A very keen fisherman too. A really nice guy to have on the team.
Chris P -
Chris joined Crownwood having dabbled with College, and like his brother, decided it was not for him! Started as an apprentice Carpenter & completed that training, and worked as such for a while. But he fancied something different. Retrained as an Electrician. Now seeking to expand his skills yet further.
Loves sport of all types but particularly American Sports.
Chelsea FC & the New England Patriots are his teams.
Paul is yet another very long standing member of the Crownwood team with something like 20 years of service.
A trained carpenter, with a very good mind for problem solving, he has always been an asset. These days his added plumbing & tiling skills see him working as a “one man bathroom refit machine” a good deal of the time. Super reliable and never afraid to work late to see a job done. Customers always warm to him.
Enjoys cooking/baking, Formula 1, and attending Gigs. His favourite song is “Love & affection” by Joan Armatrading
Matt H -
Matt has been with Crownwood since May of 2011, having joined us as a raw 20 year old.
Started as a trainee Bricklayer & has gone on from there. Now turns his hand to most things.
A family man with two little girls Rosie & Ellie.
Works hard on his house on his time off.
Loves a bit of banter and a joke or two.
Drives the Crownwood Pick up.
Manages to put enough food away each day to sustain a small army.
Football & fitness are Dan’s passion, although he says he really enjoys working too! He is certainly a reliable, keen & hard working member of the team with an easy going disposition.
His teams are Manchester United & Ash United, one of which he actually plays for ….
He likes to eat healthy too. Chicken, pasta & a “sprinkling of Veg”apparently does it for him.
Enjoys cycling, and used to cycle all the way in from Ash in the summer months. No mean feet!
Ethan joined the team in February of 2018. We had been looking to strengthen the team, and he was introduced by Dan. They play football together. Ethan is a good all rounder with PCVu window installation in particular an extra bonus on his CV. Another Chelsea FC fan.
Ethan lists Bangers & Mash as his favourite food, and Germany his favourite country to visit. Good football, good food, and good beer of course!
Likes to keep fit and has been a great addition to an already strong team.
Pete is the most recent addition to the team having started with us as a 19 years old in May of 2019. Local lad, who lives in the Village.
Pete is very easy going & quiet, but he is not afraid of hard work. Cycles in most days.
His interests include Kayaking, at which we understand he is pretty good! He enjoys climbing also, and is clearly comfortable in the great outdoors. Certainly an asset in this job.
It will be good to watch him develop & find his niche. We think he has a bright future.
